It is never too late for pets to find a house, as this story proves! Chip was a 7-week-old puppy when he came to Save-a-Pet Shelter. Chip lived at a shelter in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, for 15 years. Throughout his period at the shelter, he was properly cared for and adored by the employees.
But, after learning of Chip’s deteriorating condition, one of the shelter’s volunteers took to Facebook to see if they could find a family to adopt him after years of being missed by possible adopters:
“Chip, the tiny dog in the accompanying photo, is 15 years old. Chip was a 7-week-old puppy when he was brought to Save a Pet in Greenbushes. Chip is still at Save a Pet 15 years later. Chip has never had a home or a family who loves and cherishes him…”
“His entire existence has been spent…here in Port Elizabeth, in shelter. Nothing could be worse than passing away after spending your entire existence in an animal shelter… He is in far better shape than hundreds of thousands of other dogs, but it is so terrible that he will never know what it is like to live in a home.
“I know I’m asking a lot – actually, I’m going to ask for a magic because Chip definitely doesn’t have much longer to live, he has a skin issues, he has problems with his eyesight, and I know I’m asking for a miracle because he has a skin disease, he has problems with his eyesight, and I know I’m asking for a magic because Chip possibly doesn’t have much longer to live” (but I believe in miracles). I’m appealing for someone to step up and offer their heart and home to Chip so that he can have a loving home before he passes away.”
Her cries were heard by a man who saw her message and Chip’s photo and realized he had to assist. “Chip has been adopted!” the shelter stated beside a photo of Chip with his new dad. Chip has been waiting for a home at Save A Pet for the past 15 years. We’d want to express our gratitude to Jaco Rademeyer, the man with the BIG HEART. When Jaco saw Chip, he knew he had to adopt him.”
