Debbie Petranck was worried when her small pug-nosed terrier, Zeus, went missing from their garden in Ocala, Florida. She explored the area and made unplanned trips to the city’s shelters, but her beloved puppy was nowhere to be seen. Annoyed by the loss, Zeus’s owner started placing a “lost dog” notice in the local newspaper every week.
Debbie got an urgent call from the Friends of the Dearborn Animal Shelter after nearly 24 months of Zeus’ absence. She stopped in shock when she learned that her beloved puppy had been discovered, and that it had been located nearly 1,000 miles away in Detroit! Debbie jumped in her vehicle and drove all the way to the shelter to pick up her kid!
Allegedly, Zeus had been living with a guy who had picked up the dog as a “stray” from the streets of Florida. The guy eventually relocated to Michigan with Zeus, but the dog disappeared and wound up in Detroit! He was finally taken in by a local shelter, and a scan of his microchip showed that Debbie was his owner!
Debbie was overjoyed to have found her darling baby, but she was a nervous mess by the time she arrived at the shelter. She was terrified that Zeus would not recognize her after such a long time. But the moment Zeus saw his distressed mother, he leaped up and raced to hug her!
Zeus and Debbie’s reunion is one of the most touching moments we’ve seen in a long time! This is why microchipping a pet is so important in these times. This story gives so many other pet owners who are still searching for their missing pets hope.
