John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, a beloved celebrity couple, are well-known for their openness about parenting their four children. Recently, they shared some unexpected news with their fans.
During the 2024 Paris Olympics, Teigen posted a photo on social media showing her son Miles with a monitor on his arm. This sparked curiosity among fans, prompting Teigen to reveal that Miles, their six-year-old son, has been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.
Teigen explained that fans noticed the monitor and responded with overwhelming support and kindness. She recounted that Miles was diagnosed after falling ill with shigella at camp. The doctors, noticing unusual blood work, investigated further and discovered he was in the early stages of Type 1 diabetes, leading to the start of insulin treatment.
Type 1 diabetes is a chronic condition where the pancreas produces little or no insulin, affecting the body’s ability to manage blood sugar levels. Despite ongoing research, it remains incurable and typically manifests in childhood or adolescence.
Teigen expressed her gratitude for the community’s support and emphasized the importance of connecting with others facing similar challenges. She also mentioned reading the book “Year One With Type-1” to Miles, which brought her to tears.
The post received widespread support from friends and followers, including Nick Jonas, who also has Type 1 diabetes. Teigen shared a heartwarming encounter with Jonas at the Olympics, highlighting his kindness towards Miles.
In addition to Miles, Teigen and Legend have three other children: Luna, Wren, and Esti. The family attended the Olympic opening ceremony together, continuing to share their journey with openness and gratitude.
