Lady Diana captured the public’s fascination throughout her life, with intense media interest in her personal affairs even after her split from Prince Charles.
Among the men she knew, Hasnat Khan was one of her most significant loves.
Here’s their story.
After her separation from Prince Charles, Lady Diana had several relationships, but Hasnat Khan made the deepest impact on her. She felt a profound sense of freedom with him.
In 1995, after leaving her royal duties, Lady Diana met Hasnat Khan at the Royal Brompton Hospital while visiting the husband of her friend Oonagh Shanley-Toffolo.
At the time, Khan was a prominent 36-year-old surgeon. Diana quickly fell for him, though Khan was deeply focused on his medical career.
A couple of weeks later, they spent more time together at Khan’s aunt and uncle’s home. They tried to escape the intense media scrutiny, and Khan, who was from Pakistan, proposed starting a new life there.
Khan once said, “I suggested that the only way we could have a relatively normal life would be to move to Pakistan, where the press wouldn’t bother us.” However, after a trip to Saint-Tropez with Mohamed Al-Fayed, Diana’s feelings changed.
Khan noted, “After her trip to France, I sensed something was wrong. Her phone kept going to voicemail.” Diana eventually ended their relationship.
Today, Hasnat Khan still lives in England and has been in a relationship since 2017. Before that, he was briefly married to a Pakistani aristocrat.
