When 73-year-old Richard Gere planned a seaside getaway with his wife Alejandra Silva and their children, he never imagined how the trip would unfold for their family.
The actor’s wife recently opened up about his urgent hospitalization, revealing that the vacation took an unexpected turn. According to express.co.uk, Gere ended up in the hospital during the trip, hooked up to an IV.
The trip to Mexico was meant to celebrate Alejandra’s 40th birthday, as she is more than 30 years younger than her husband. Even before the flight, Richard had a slight cough but chose to ignore it.
However, once they arrived, his condition worsened. His cough became more severe, and as his fever spiked, Alejandra insisted on getting him to the hospital. There, doctors diagnosed him with pneumonia, a serious condition, especially for someone over 70.
Thankfully, treatment began in time, and after a course of antibiotics, Gere’s health improved. Alejandra confirmed that he is now recovering.
Unfortunately, the illness didn’t stop with Richard. His wife and their children also fell ill, though their symptoms were milder.
