For many kids, class photo day is a special event where they get to choose their outfits. However, some children might feel anxious about what others will think of their clothes, and some find it difficult to smile for pictures.
Three-year-old Kaylieann Steinbach was excited for her bedtime routine the night before her class photo. But that excitement quickly faded when she saw the outfit her parents had chosen.
Kaylieann, who loves superheroes like Superman and Supergirl (though she calls them “Pooterman” and “Pootergirl” due to significant hearing loss), had her own idea of what to wear.
When her parents suggested different outfits, Kaylieann confidently declared, “Pootergirl!” Her father, Austin, couldn’t argue with her choice.
Kaylieann proudly wore her superhero costume for the class photo, even bringing a matching doll. According to her dad, she often dresses up for school, and both teachers and students enjoy seeing her daily superhero outfits.
Austin was overwhelmed by the response when he posted Kaylieann’s picture on Reddit. Messages of support, especially from the deaf community, poured in. He told the Huffington Post, “I never imagined how much her photo could inspire so many people.”
Kaylieann truly is a brave little superhero! Share this story if you think it’s amazing she got to fulfill her dream.
