Age differences in relationships often spark debate, particularly in the world of celebrity couples. While many choose not to address such gaps, Mick Jagger and Melanie Hamrick are breaking the norm by speaking openly about it.
Melanie, who is dating the 81-year-old Rolling Stones frontman, shared that she doesn’t pay attention to public opinions about their relationship. “I don’t think about [the age gap],” she said. “People will always have opinions, but if you focus on them, you’ll drive yourself crazy.”
For some, a significant age difference can be a dealbreaker, but for Melanie, 37, and Mick, it hasn’t been an issue. In a rare interview with *The Sunday Times*, Melanie discussed their relationship and how it’s never bothered her.
“I focus on what matters,” she continued. “Am I happy? Yes. Is everyone around me happy? Yes. If I’m not hurting anyone, they can mind their own business.”
The couple has been together since 2014 and welcomed their son, Deveraux, in 2016, who is now 7 years old. Melanie, a former ballerina, is now pursuing a career in writing, with Mick offering his support.
Her books are inspired by her ballet career, and Mick has been an enthusiastic reader, providing feedback. Laughing, Melanie recalled, “[Mick] said, ‘You use the word throbbing a lot in book two.’”
Reflecting on when they first met at a Rolling Stones concert in 2014, Melanie recalled not being starstruck. “Ballet dancers are used to meeting stars, but for us, ballet dancers are the true idols,” she explained.
