She went months without combing her hair; stylist spent 13 hours restoring it…

A young girl had been in a prolonged depression, feeling so low that she hadn’t combed her hair in months. When she finally went to a salon, she asked the stylist to shave off the large, matted clump of hair, thinking it was beyond saving.

On August 8, 2017, the 16-year-old girl from Waterloo, Iowa, visited stylist Kylie Olsson at Capri College. She needed a photo for the upcoming school year but was prepared to start fresh with a shaved head. Kylie, however, saw hope for restoring her hair and spent 13 hours carefully untangling and reviving it.

During the long process, the girl opened up, sharing her struggle with depression and how getting out of bed was a challenge in itself. Kylie shared her story on Facebook, where it quickly went viral, touching many who empathized with the girl’s journey.

“It was one of the hardest cases of my career,” Kylie shared, describing how the girl cried throughout the process. Moved by the experience, she urged parents to take their children’s mental health seriously, encouraging open conversations rather than pressure.

After hours of painstaking work, Kylie finally managed to restore the girl’s hair.

The girl’s gratitude was clear as she told Kylie, “I’ll smile in school photos thanks to you.” Readers also praised Kylie’s compassion, hoping this transformation would help the girl embrace self-love and a renewed sense of confidence.
