Costco’s new food court seating changes are sparking mixed reactions from shoppers. While some are in favor, others, especially families with young children, are frustrated.
The $1.50 hot dog and soda combo remains the same, but Costco is testing standing-only tables at select locations. The goal is to reduce overcrowding and encourage quicker visits, but it’s causing discomfort for some customers.
A Reddit post highlighted a Costco in South Korea where traditional seating was replaced with tall tables. One user shared how they had to balance their toddler on their lap to eat, and others were asked to leave for sitting on the floor.
Supporters of the change argue it makes the food court more efficient and helps avoid long stays. “It’s not a restaurant—it’s for grabbing a quick bite,” one user remarked.
However, many parents miss the old seating. A shopper from California expressed disappointment, saying the new tables are too high for kids and make it hard to continue a 40-year tradition of enjoying a Costco hot dog with her daughter.
The debate shows how small changes can affect shoppers in different ways.
