Jennifer Garner faced a heartbreaking loss just before Thanksgiving 2024, as she said goodbye to her cherished dog, Birdie.
This year has been especially difficult for Garner. In March, she mourned the loss of her father, William, and now, just months later, she finds herself grieving again. Sharing the news on Instagram, Garner revealed that Birdie had suddenly fallen ill, and a vet confirmed it was time to say goodbye.
“It seems nuts, given the world, to mourn a pet,” she wrote, “but since we’ve shared Birdie with you, it feels right to let you know of her passing.”
In her touching tribute, Garner shared how Birdie seemed to wait for one of her children to return from college, allowing the family to be together for their goodbyes. Fans of Garner’s *Pretend Cooking Show* will remember Birdie, the sweet Golden Retriever who often appeared by her side.
“She lived a happy dog life and is now in the role she was born to play: angel girl,” Garner wrote. “It’s a gift to love and be loved by such a creature.”
Despite her personal loss, Garner spent Thanksgiving volunteering with her ex-husband, Ben Affleck, and their children, serving meals to over 2,000 people at the Midnight Mission in Los Angeles.
