NASA Astronaut Breaks Silence on Health Rumors After Stranding in Space…

A NASA astronaut stranded in orbit has addressed public concerns about her health after recent photos sparked worry. Barry “Butch” Wilmore, 61, and Sunita “Suni” Williams, 59, began an eight-day mission on June 5. However, mechanical issues disrupted their return, leaving them in space indefinitely.

Instead of using their damaged spacecraft, they now await a ride home aboard SpaceX’s Dragon. Although updates from the astronauts have reassured many, newly released images have heightened concerns on Earth.

Some speculate that Sunita Williams may have lost weight during her extended stay in orbit. Pulmonologist Dr. Vinay Gupta told the *Daily Mail* that Williams’ facial features and sunken cheeks suggest a possible calorie deficit but emphasized that a single photo isn’t enough to assess her health.

NASA reassured the public, stating that astronauts undergo regular medical checks by flight surgeons and remain in good health.

To address the concerns, NASA shared a video interview with Williams on November 12. Speaking to the New England Sports Network, Williams humorously dismissed weight-loss rumors, saying, “I think it’s funny. My weight has stayed the same.” She monitors her weight daily and confirmed no significant changes since arriving in orbit.

Williams explained that fluid redistribution in space can make astronauts appear to have larger heads. She and Wilmore have maintained their exercise routines, using weightlifting equipment, a treadmill, and a bicycle. “I’ve noticed changes in my body composition,” she added, pointing out slight muscle growth in her thighs and buttocks from squats.

She emphasized the treadmill’s role in maintaining bone density and concluded, “While my weight hasn’t changed, my body has adapted to life in space.”
