Melania Trump took a subtle but pointed jab at the White House’s “existing style” under the Obamas in her biography *Melania*.
She described arriving at the White House in 2017 and the changes she believed were necessary. According to her, the Obamas denied her family early access, disrupting preparations for their move and renovations.

She noted that granting early access was a long-standing tradition, but “protocols and politics” interfered.
“Unfortunately, my plans to begin preparing the residence before the inauguration were disrupted,” she wrote. “Sadly, our team did not receive the access we had requested in December.”
As a single mother, her priority was Barron’s well-being. She focused on finding him a good school in Washington, DC, and ensuring a stable transition.
The delay meant she could only start renovations after moving in. She stressed that those lost weeks would have been crucial for planning, measuring, and preparing the space.

Barron’s room was a key concern, as he was the first young boy to live there since John F. Kennedy Jr. With children’s rooms designed for girls for decades, she wanted a space tailored to his interests.
Melania has since acknowledged she may split her time between Florida, New York, and Washington, DC.
