King Carl XVI Gustaf has officially announced the name of his granddaughter.
Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip welcomed their fourth child, a daughter, on February 7 at Danderyd Hospital.

Following tradition, the king revealed her full name, Ines Marie Lilian Silvia, during a council meeting at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. However, he later apologized for mispronouncing her first name.
A statement from the palace confirmed that Princess Ines, now eighth in line to the throne, has been granted the title Duchess of Västerbotten. While she is a member of the Royal Family, she will not hold the title of Royal Highness.

Her middle names honor family members—Silvia after Carl Philip’s mother, Queen Silvia, and Marie after Sofia’s mother, Marie Hellqvist. Lilian pays tribute to the late Princess Lilian, Duchess of Halland.

The last person to hold the title Duchess of Västerbotten was King Carl XVI Gustaf’s mother, Princess Sibylla, who passed away in 1972.
Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia, who are also parents to Princes Alexander, Gabriel, and Julian, shared their excitement, saying their sons are eager to meet their new sister.

The happy family left the hospital with their newborn daughter on February 10.
