Helen Mirren saw firsthand how Harrison Ford’s 2015 plane crash influenced his performance in *1923*.
Recalling their first scene together, she described Ford’s character, Jacob Dutton, gravely wounded and covered in blood. “Later, Harrison told me, ‘That was how I was after the accident,’” she shared.

Ford has spoken openly about how the near-fatal crash shaped his approach to the role. “As I read the scripts, I was struck by how many key moments in my character’s life reflected my own experiences,” he told *People* in 2023.
In 2015, Ford’s vintage plane suffered engine failure, forcing an emergency landing on a Los Angeles golf course. He sustained serious injuries but never let the experience deter him from flying.
Instead, he used it to bring authenticity and depth to *1923*.
In the *Yellowstone* prequel, Mirren and Ford play Cara and Jacob Dutton, a resilient couple facing the hardships of early 20th-century life.

Both actors signed on without reading a script, trusting Taylor Sheridan’s storytelling. For Ford, the role felt deeply personal, saying, “There’s something about it that feels bigger than myself.”
