At 77, Elton John reflects on his children’s growing concerns about his health and future…

At 77, Elton John, renowned for his legendary career and one of the few to hold an EGOT, now faces his own mortality as his young sons express their fears about losing him.

Despite nearly six decades of artistry that will leave an enduring legacy, the “Rocket Man,” who has faced serious health issues and is now described as a “ticking time bomb,” understands his sons’ worries about missing key milestones in their lives.

Reflecting on his sons Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11, John shares, “They think about my mortality. They worry about me.” While acknowledging his sons’ concerns, John hopes to be around long enough to see them reach major life events like marriage and parenthood, though he admits, “I don’t think I’m going to be around for that. So, I want to use the best of my time while I’m here.”

John’s partner, David Furnish, reveals that John struggled with “a lot of anxiety” watching scenes that addressed his mortality, preferring not to burden their children with such thoughts.

He shares, “Elton’s strong as an ox and rarely cancels shows. He’ll probably outlive me; he’s just so tough.” Furnish also notes that fatherhood was an “epiphany” for John, leading to his decision to retire from touring—a change that has brought him genuine happiness and fulfilled a long-held dream for their family.
