After over 20 years in business, Mariachi’s in Belleville has permanently closed its doors.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, the restaurant announced, “With heavy hearts, we have made the decision to close our Belleville location permanently.
We hope to see you soon at our Maryville or [Millstadt] locations. Thank you, Belleville, for 22 wonderful years!”
The post included a photo of a sign on the restaurant’s door with a similar message. Mariachi’s first opened at 400 S. Illinois St. in March 2003, founded by Edgar Carrillo and Alejandro Martinez.
The reason for the closure remains unknown, as calls to the restaurant went unanswered.
The 400 S. Illinois St. location has a long history, previously housing eateries such as Gatlin’s Restaurant, Townhouse Restaurant, and Diamond Lil’s before becoming Mariachi’s.
Over the years, Mariachi’s expanded to additional locations. Mariachi’s II launched in Fairview Heights in 2004 but closed by 2009. Another branch opened in Millstadt in 2009 but shut down two years later.
Currently, the Millstadt location at 717 W. Washington St. and the Maryville location at 2922 N. Center St. remain open.
Both are operational Monday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. For inquiries, contact 618-476-6223 (Millstadt) or 618-288-6300 (Maryville).
