Patti Scialfa, Bruce Springsteen’s wife and member of the E Street Band, has shared her ongoing battle with cancer.
In Springsteen’s recent documentary, *Rock Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band*, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, Scialfa disclosed her 2018 diagnosis of multiple myeloma, a form of cancer that affects the immune system.
“This impacts my immune system, so I have to be cautious about what I do and where I go,” Scialfa explained. Despite these challenges, she occasionally joins Springsteen on stage, performing a few songs—a rare treat she deeply cherishes.
Scialfa revealed that her diagnosis influenced her decision to step back from full-time touring. She also prioritized spending more time with her granddaughter, Lily Springsteen, born in July 2022, and working on her solo album.
Reflecting on the E Street Band’s current tour, Scialfa noted the abundance of musicians on stage, saying, “Everything felt complete without me, which allowed me to focus on my own record.”
Springsteen has also faced health struggles, including peptic ulcer disease and vocal issues, which have led to postponed performances. Both Scialfa and Springsteen remain resilient as they navigate these challenges together.
