Susan Boyle has always had a special way of connecting through music, especially when it comes to songs of faith. And back in 2010, she proved just how deeply her voice could move people — even a Pope.
On September 16 of that year, Boyle was the featured guest performer at a Roman Catholic Mass held in Glasgow’s Bellahouston Park during Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to Scotland. With about 65,000 people in attendance, the atmosphere was already electric — and then Susan took the stage. She performed her signature “I Dreamed a Dream,” followed by the heartfelt hymn “Make Me a Channel of Your Peace,” and finally a powerful, emotional rendition of “How Great Thou Art” that gave many in the crowd chills.
It’s not every day someone gets to sing for a sitting Pope, let alone more than once — but Susan has now done exactly that. What’s always stood out about her is the way she completely transforms when she sings. From her unforgettable audition on Britain’s Got Talent in 2009 to massive events like this, she continues to command every stage she steps on.
Despite the wind sweeping through the park that day, Boyle sang with clarity, warmth, and strength. Her voice soared during the high notes of “How Great Thou Art,” and the crowd was clearly moved.
For Susan, it wasn’t just another performance — it was something deeply meaningful. As a woman of strong faith, singing for the Pope was a spiritual experience. “My faith is incredibly important to me on every level,” she told The Christian Post in 2014. “It gets me through those moments of self-doubt and also allows me to understand that this gift of my career, later in life, is from God.”
