Suri is 20 years old now, and she’s not using her dad Tom Cruise’s last name anymore. Her new legal name is Suri Noelle. She took “Noelle” from her mom Katie Holmes’ middle name.
People first noticed this back in June 2024. Her name showed up without “Cruise” on her high school graduation program. At the time, people close to her said she wanted to honor her mom, avoid being followed by photographers, and start fresh when she went to college.

Suri and her dad have not been close for a long time. Back in 2013, in a legal case, Tom Cruise admitted he didn’t see Suri in person for over 100 days when she was only seven years old. In that same case, he was asked if Katie Holmes left him to keep Suri away from his religion, Scientology. He said that was “offensive” and that his religion wasn’t a threat to his daughter — but he did admit it was one reason for the divorce. Suri herself is reportedly no longer part of that religion.

Records show Suri registered to vote in Pennsylvania in October 2024, during her first year at Carnegie Mellon University. She was already listed as “Suri Noelle” there. But there’s no record of her officially changing her name in that area. This means she probably changed it earlier, in New York, where she lived with her mom before college. In New York, these kinds of name change records can be hidden from the public. So no one knows the exact date she legally became “Noelle,” but she’d already been using that name for a while.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes had Suri in April 2006 and got married later that year. They divorced in 2012 when Suri was six. Since then, she’s mainly lived with her mom. Katie has said before that she and Suri basically grew up together. Suri is the only biological child Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have together. He also has two adopted kids, Isabella and Connor, from his marriage to Nicole Kidman.
