Despite the fact that the black bear posed no danger, a mother brown bear pursued it up a tree to defend her baby. In this remarkable video, a brown bear sow scents a “jet black boar” and dashes down a hill to chase him away.
The cameraman who observed the standoff stated in his YouTube description, “She runs down the steep mountain like a freight train, following him up a large pine tree.”
The mom bear makes multiple attempts to approach the terrified black bear, mounting the 200-foot tree with ease. She is so tenacious in her chase that she knocks the limbs from the tree until just a few remain!
Meanwhile, the black bear refuses to move and clings to the tree’s branch for dear life.
People say that the tense situation went on for about 27 minutes, until the mother bear went back to her cub. At that point, the male bear carefully climbed back down the tree and ran away.
